Worse still, many claim to be complete meals but only contain a fraction of the calories needed to provide the energy you need. And finally, many are little more than expensive protein shakes, too high in protein and too low in slow-release carbs and fiber - a long way from being the balanced meal I was looking for.

Overall, the long-term health effects of sweeteners are unknown. Which is why we have chosen not to use them in Rootana.

Is coconut sugar bad for me? Will it make me gain weight?

No, when consumed in low amounts, coconut sugar can be part of a healthy balanced diet. Each serving of Rootana contains a low amount of coconut sugar. Unlike regular white sugar, coconut sugar is unrefined, it has a lower glycemic index, but doesn’t spike blood sugar levels to the same extent. It also contains extra nutrients that are beneficial for you.
